What Are the Library Badges?
The CWI Library Information Literacy Badging Program exists to help you learn about the critical services and resources the Library makes available to you at CWI, and to help you build or expand your skills in locating, evaluating, and using information in your class assignments.
Where Can I Access Them?
The Badging site exists in your Blackboard, where you should already see it listed under "myCommons", which is listed within "Organizations" on the left navigation bar:
Click on "Organizations" and you will find myCommons is located in this section:
Once you select that, you will be taken to myCommons. You will see "Library" listed under "Academic Skills & Support Badges" on the myCommons homepage:
Badges are listed alphabetically. You will see the Library Badges about midway down the page:
Please note: If you don't see the Badging site listed in myCommons, submit a quick HelpDesk ticket and request that it be added. You can expect it to appear within one business day.
What Will I Learn?
Our Library badges cover the following information:
- Get a tour of the physical Library and an orientation to our website by completing the "Crossed the Threshold" Badge.
- Learn how to better evaluate and select sources for your class projects in the "Source Sifter" Badge.
- Find out how to search for books and articles from the Library when you walk through the "Found It!" Badge.
- Discover and leverage the unique value of librarians in the "Asked a Librarian" Badge.
How Do I Earn Them?
You earn each badge by getting a 90% or higher on that badge's quiz. Some badges cover more content and have more questions, so they're not all out of 100 points.
Here are the point values you need to get a 90% or more on each quiz:
- Asked a Librarian: 100 of 100 points
- Crossed the Threshold: 130 of 140 points
- Found It!: 110 of 120 points
- Source Sifter: 130 of 140 points
Complete all four of the above badges with a 90% or more and you should automatically see a fifth badge appear: the Research Basics Mega Badge! This badge will also have your name on it, proving that you've conquered the Research Basics Badge Set and are on your way to super-researcher status! 💪🧠
How Do I Prove That I've Earned Them?
When you've earned a 90% or more on a badge's quiz, Blackboard should automatically create a section of a page that contains your name and the name of the badge. It will also be listed under the "Academic Skills and Support Badges" in My Badge Book.
As of Fall 2021, some students have told us that this proof doesn't automatically appear. They have had to log out of Blackboard, and then log back in before this proof "automatically" appeared. Please try that if you don't see your proof right away.
For each badge you have earned, you will see the badge's name, your name, and a short description of the badge.
Screenshot Instructions
Now you can:
- Take a screenshot using the built-in tools for Windows or Mac (additional instructions below)
- Save that image as file, and
- Upload it to Blackboard or however your professor wants you to share your proof of completion.
How to take a screen shot:

You can take a screenshot on Mac by using the Screenshot app. (To find it, first click on the magnifying glass icon to bring up search, then search for Screenshot.
